Joëlle came to yoga later in life, in search of a fix for her chronic depression bought on by stress. She started practising Ashtanga with the help of a DVD ‘Ashtanga Yoga for Beginners’ with Nicki Doane, and to her surprise found instant relief. Her experience was so profound she immediately started a daily practice and continues to reap the benefits of this amazing practice.
‘Having battled depression for 15 years practising Ashtanga for the first time, hard as it was, was like coming up for fresh air. It was such an easy fix, and I knew at that moment that I wanted to teach this amazing practice and help others manage their stress levels.’
Coming to yoga from a mental health perspective Joëlle quickly realised that feeling joy, contentment and peace was more important than having the ability to do each asana perfectly, although very satisfying, it’s only the icing on the cake, not the actual cake.
Joëlle started practising at the Ashtanga Space Shala in 2015 with Francesca Di Rosso. She started assisting Francesca and teaching the beginners at the Ashtanga Space Shala in 2016.

In March 2020, because of the Coronavirus and subsequent confinement, Joëlle created the virtual Shala ‘Joy in the Breath – Ashtanga Shala Brussels’.
